Falling for Toronto: Things to Do in Toronto this Fall

Autumn leaves in Toronto.

Summer might be over, but Toronto in the fall is anything but boring. From cozy drinks to city-wide festivals, there’s plenty to keep you busy between classes and midterms. We’ve put together a few ideas to help you make the most of the season.

1. Catch the Colours

Toronto’s parks turn into Instagram gold this time of year. High Park, Evergreen Brick Works, and Queen’s Park are perfect for a walk surrounded by red and gold leaves. Evergreen Brick Works even hosts the Saturday Farmers’ Market throughout the fall, giving you the chance to pick up seasonal treats.

Pro tip: mid-to-late October is peak foliage season.

2. Nuit Blanche

For one night every October, the whole city becomes an art gallery. Nuit Blanche brings installations, performances, and interactive exhibits to neighbourhoods across downtown Toronto. The event runs from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m on October 4-5, and admission is free!

3. Pumpkin Everything

Fall isn’t fall without a little pumpkin spice. Local cafés like Jimmy’s Coffee and Boxcar Social are perfect for seasonal lattes. If you’re craving more of an adventure, head out to Downey’s Farm or Chudleigh’s Entertainment Farm just outside the city for pumpkin picking, hayrides, and apple cider. Both spots are easy day trips from Toronto.

4. Spooky Season

Halloween in Toronto is packed with fun (and fright!). Here are a few of Toronto’s top Halloween events:

  • Casa Loma’s Legends of Horror transforms the castle into a haunted attraction (September 27–October 31)
  • Halloween Haunt at Canada’s Wonderland brings thrills just north of the city (select nights September 27–October 27)
  • Halloween on Church Street is a massive block party you won’t want to miss (October 31)
  • For a more low-key vibe, try a ghost tour in the Distillery District: Toronto Ghost Tours

5. Fall Festivals

Toronto’s fall calendar is full of festivals celebrating film, books, and food. Highlights include the Toronto International Festival of Authors at Harbourfront Centre (September 25–October 5, 2025), and be sure to keep an eye on the Paradise Theatre which hosts frequent festivals such as the Short Film Festival and the Indie Film Festival (dates to be announced). Both offer a chance to enjoy the city’s creative side while supporting local and international talent.

Make the Most of Fall in Toronto

Whether you’re sipping pumpkin spice, exploring art until dawn, or crunching through colourful leaves, Toronto in the fall has something for everyone. With so many ways to celebrate the season, all that’s left is to grab a sweater and dive in. Just remember, there’s nothing wrong with falling hard!
