At HOEM we place the highest priority on the safety and security of our residents. Only students and building staff have HOEM access. This is enforced with 24/7 reception, overnight security and our on-site live-in Residence Life Facilitator (a professional Ryerson University staff member).

All guests visiting HOEM must be signed in with a resident and provide photo ID. All exterior entrances as well as individual bedrooms have key card access and there is CCTV monitoring of all common areas. In case of emergency, there are security, maintenance and professional staff members on-call 24/7.

Our residents are students first, and that’s reflected in the design and operation of our building.

Creating an atmosphere to facilitate academic excellence is important to us. All apartments have single bedrooms with a study desk—ideal for those who prefer to work in the comfort of their suite. HOEM also features a study space on every floor, a multipurpose room on the second floor and meeting rooms with a wirelessly connected TV and a white board. The Maker Space is available for hands-on projects.

Academic support services begin with the Academic Link—an upper year student assigned to each Ryerson student from their faculty. They are there to answer any and all questions, from classes to program enrollment to exam prep.

At HOEM all apartments are ready to live in the moment a student arrives.

From couches and shower curtains to cutlery and crockery, we have it all. Residents simply need to bring their personal effects. For a full list of items that are provided in every suite, please see What Not To Bring

For a small fee, students can arrange to have bedding provided before they arrive. We also provide an optional linen and laundry service. For a full list of all available add-ons, keep reading.

Laundry and Printing Service

There is a pay-per-use laundry room on the ground floor with the ability for students to register online for text or email notifications. There’s also a pay-per-use printer available. HOEM believes in openness and transparency. If you need more clarification around costs, please don’t hesitate to contact the HOEM Team for more information.

HOEM is a sustainable building and we encourage all students to be conscious of how they consume. For this reason, utilities are not included. Utilities average about $35 per month per resident. Students often qualify for OESP (Ontario Electricity Support Program), which offers a reduced cost for utility expenses. We’ll help with applications.

Contact HOEM management for more information.

Students who develop a sense of community with their peers adjust better to university life, enjoy more academic success and are happier overall. HOEM provides residents with endless ways to get involved, learn new skills and get to know other residents in a comfortable and safe environment.

All bedrooms are fitted with a study desk, bright lighting ideal for reading and studying, a comfortable twin XL bed, a closet and both large and small drawer units. The suites features hardwood-type floors throughout and are decorated with warm and comfortable tones making them feel cozy and inviting. With an abundance of on-site services and access to great shopping facilities close by, HOEM truly feels like home.

HOEM offers students the best of both worlds: a cozy, cool and safe building in the heart of Toronto that is still connected to Housing & Residence life at Ryerson. Our community gives students the tools and experiences they’ll need to begin their professional careers with the greatest chance of success. Whether it’s attending one of our career-building workshops or applying to our in-residence job opportunities, there are plenty of ways for students to grow. HOEM cultivates a supportive environment that allows students to test out their independence with a built-in safety net.
